My girlfriend kindly requested me to draw a butterfly for her and so I did.
[by the way dark matter and neurons make for kick-ass textures…]

Colors are from the pink on her self-sprites, the green on her Tumblr, the blue from her Breath-Aspect, and black because she likes it as a classy color.
The butterfly herself is based on  a pipevine swallowtail, indigenous to most of North America, especially forest areas; but like most swallowtails, tropical environments are also favorable.
They spend their larval stage eating a toxic host plant, growing up within a toxic environment for other species; so that even after pupating into a fully camouflaged/hidden chrysalis, they hatch as adults that retain the toxicity so that predators are deterred from eating them.
Even practically speaking, it is better to admire their beauty than to prey on them; and just as viceroys mimic monarchs, several other butterfly species will mimic pipevine swallowtails for this desirable trait.
